Not self-hating Floridian woman's letter to HRC

Fri May 23, 2008 at 09:09:11 AM PDT

Dear Senator Clinton:

As a Floridian I believe the delegates of my state should not be counted.

People here in Florida were told by officials--with whom you agreed-- that our votes would not count in the primary due to its early date. We acted accordingly.

To change that now, given our actions and inaction, would be unfair and wrong. We, The People, have rights. Our right to campaign and work for our candidate was abridged by the process, the process with which you agreed. At the time. You should not try to change it midstream just because it suits you.

Obama supporters rightly believed their vote would not really count, did not matter. Were we wrong to believe them? Were we wrong to believe you?

I voted for him in the Florida primary unlike many others here who did not bother voting.

We Floridians were told repeatedly by the Democratic Party and other officials that our vote would not be counted, that it did not matter.

Record numbers for Obama turned out in states where their primary votes counted! But in Florida record numbers stayed home. It's easier to stay home and if it doesn't matter, why go to the trouble?

You see, people who have lost hope do not always make it to the polls. So when in advance of a vote we were told YOUR VOTE DOES NOT MATTER, lots of people do not vote. People who would have voted for Obama stayed home.

Obama supporters rightly believed their vote would not really count, did not matter. Were we wrong to believe them? Were we wrong to believe you?

Now you say:  "Ooops. Sorry. We were kidding. Too bad you believed us. We really are going to count the votes."

:::

If we thought it counted we would have campaigned for Obama.

If we thought it counted we would have got out the vote!

If Florida's delegates are counted it will be unfair!

If the Party now changes its mind and counts the votes, then we are made fools of.

You argue that we Floridians are cheated if the votes are not counted, when we knew they would not count! We were not cheated by the party, but by our own Republican state legislature.

We are truly cheated if they are now counted.

Where is the fairness in your shifting position, Hillary? There is none, especially if you agreed to the rules. Which you did. On record.

Now you wish to change the rulings, the process, you accepted, for one reason. Not because you believe the votes must be counted for fairness. You are not trustworthy.

If you really believed the decision about Florida's primary was wrong you should have, you would have, argued that position before. You did not. You are transparent in your avarice for votes, madam. You are no longer an example of integrity.

Listen, Hillary, woman to woman. I'm a white 64-year-old woman and I've always wanted a woman president but I must choose based on qualifications, not gender or race. Having a woman president is not as important as having a good or great president.

If Obama were a woman, I'd be even happier to vote for him. I'll vote for him even if he is another male because he has integrity and judgement. I can trust him.

If Obama were white I would vote for him.

I used to admire you, but I hate unfair tactics that drive people apart, rather than bringing them together. Obama is good for America because he stands for change and good judgement and will bring people together.

You need to get over yourself, madam. You need to accept your fate. You may believe you are God's only gift to America, but you are so wrong.

If it were not for the appearance of a Barack Obama you could possibly have been our first woman president. But he did come on the scene when America needs him. Given your going along with the war in Iraq and signing on to the Iran initiative makes it clear that you are wrong on the most basic and important foreign policy matters so I would not have been able to vote for you, but that's another issue.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Gorette
