A Fighting Kossack Is Crashing The Gate And Running For Office!

Hello, my fellow Kossacks! My name is Donald Bortz. I've been a Kossack since 2004, when I joined just after the election. I've written over 40 diaries, 2 of which have made it to the rec list. Both of those told of my experience in Iraq. I'm also a frontpager at Blogging For Michigan, an outstanding liberal state blog.
We're all here because we believe in America and our communities. We want to make our country a better place to live. We want to make sure that anyone who works an honest job should be able to afford to pay the rent. We believe in looking after our veterans, and making higher education available so people can have a strong education and the good paying job that goes with it.
We know that you can't be anti-worker and pro-business. Without a strong workforce, our economy will cease to exist.
We believe it's the right of all our citizens to have healthcare.
Even more important, we believe that our elected leaders should stand up for these ideas. And that's why I, Donald Bortz, have decided to run for office.
I'm running for County Commissioner in Oakland County, Michigan.
While there are many problems that we can't solve at the county level, there's still a lot of things that can be done. For starters, I want to create a program that allows all veterans of OEF and OIF to attend Oakland Community College free of charge. I know all too well about the difficulties of getting the GI Bill, and we need to be working to support our veterans at all levels.
Our county has a universal dental plan for people who don't have health insurance. I'd like to expand this to create a low-cost healthcare plan.
I also want to increase funding for road construction. Not only would this increase jobs in our county, but our roads are in such disrepair that we have to make fixing them a top priority.
There's also a lot of other things I want to do to improve our economy and quality of life. You can read about them at my website.
I won't have a chance of winning without the support of bloggers. We all worked to elect Brian Keeler (aka NYBri) to the New York State Senate in 2006. This year, we have a chance of having a Kossack elected to office for the first time.
As this campaign goes on I plan on keeping you updated. I hope to have your support.

P.S. Bruinkid just informed me that MN State Rep. Jeremy Kahn, aka JKMinnesota, was a Kossack elected in 2006. So after the election, I'll at least be in the top five:).
