The face of the new politics has deep ties to America's oldest fuel source. Many in the energy business are now beginning to recognize that their best hope for 1600 Pennsylvania lies in Barack Obama.
While even Republican governors are saying 'no mas' to new coal plants even advanced technology so-called 'clean coal' plants, Obama was on Meet the Press talking about the critical role of coal in our nation's energy infrastructure.
"You know, I've said the same thing about coal. I have a aggressive goal of reducing carbon emissions, and coal is a dirty fuel right now. But if we can figure out how to sequester carbon and burn clean coal, we're the Saudi Arabia of coal, and I don't think that we can dismiss out of hand the use of coal as part of our energy mix"
Aggressive and clean are very relative terms especially considering Obama's Illinois roots and his connections to their in-state coal industry. Also bear in mind that Obama has carried water for nuclear power plants and voted for the Bush/Cheney Energy "plan."
Is this another subject for the willful suspension of disbelief?
