If you don't have money you need to have sense

Tue May 06, 2008 at 05:14:38 AM PDT

This is another short, sweet diary...I heard this comment just recently when someone ask a local Obama worker "why are you supporting Obama"...

The response was "when you don't have money a lot of money you have to have sense...That is why I'm voting for Obama"..I heard this and thought, this says it all.

It is clear that people without money have little to no influence in the political world.  However if you have the wisdom and sense to vote for the right person, then you do have power.

Power to make a change is "powerful" in itself.  We have the power to hopefully help make change and hopefully people of all incomes, all races, all backgrounds can help the future of this country.  That power starts by voting...

For anyone following my diaries, you know that I'm from Kentucky. Kentucky has a lot of people supporting Obama.  We see him as someone who can not only change things in this country but also change things for the better.

Its that simple.  GOTV!!!!  I hope others are listening.

to do a long one sometime!  I'm hopeful about today and I am encouraging others to be as well.

The food bomb, the 1,500,000 donors, the excitement!  This is a great community and it makes me feel good about this country and our future.

everyone appreciates that fact.  I get down when I hear people say they don't vote for one reason or another.

It has been shown time after time that every vote does count!  Look at Guam...If nothing else comes out of this primary, at least Obama has rallied more people to vote..more people to participate.  Voting is the key..

Otherwise, we deserve what we get...

by voting is very powerful, indeed! People need to know they can make a difference and voting is one way they can do that.  We need to encourage people to feel the power of the vote.  Every vote counts.  Everyone matters.  Great diary, Kyman!  Keep up the good work!

  •  I still simply can NOT support Obama (0+ / 0-)

Speaking as a gay American, I have absolutely zero confidence that Obama will have GLBT well-being in mind; instead we'll used as a political tool to get more of the votes from the African American evangelical crowd.  "Ignore the gays, pander to get the evangelical vote..."  I can't help it, I'd love to jump on the band wagon and support Obama, but the Bush fiasco reinforced the idea that I should open my eyes and think for myself, not be seduced by mob mentality.  I thoroughly detest Hillary Clinton and I think McCain should be in a nursing home somewhere, not running for POTUS.  Obama is the least of the three evils, but I'd NOT vote in protest before I'd vote for him.  It's the McClurkin mess, remember that?  All Obama would have to do is convince me that he won't throw me and mine under the bus at the first opportunity.  There are many GLBT that feel the same way - they don't trust Obama, and it all stems from the McClurkin scandal.  Am I wrong about this?  I'd love for Obama to prove me wrong, but it will never happen because he's calculated that he'd lose too many evangelical votes if he truly supported equal rights for GLBTs.  He's a politician, a snake in the grass just like all the rest, yet here I see a whole new crowd swarming him in the same way Bush's nutjobs supporters swarmed him.  Remember in 1999/2000?  Remember the Bush Mania that swept the country?  Does Obamania remind you of Bush Mania?

    •  Obama is by far the best candidate to (0+ / 0-)

address your issues.  By not voting, it is NOT making a statement...IMO...It shows that you are willing to take whoever.  Its up to you...make the effort for the right change for this country or sit back and take what you get.

      •  We don't live in a truly democratic society... (0+ / 0-)

Our "elected" officials fight tooth and nail for the CORPORATIONS and the Military Industrial complex, meanwhile the American people are left to suffer.  I agree that not voting is deplorable, but I'm so tempted to say, "I wash my hands of this whole fake crapfest."  Do you honestly think Obama will challenge the corporate power structure?  He won't, and if he tries the NeoCon powers-that-be will kill him, like they killed JFK and his brother Robert.  And I'm curious Kyman, what evidence to you have that shows you Obama won't let the churches influence him into hating on gays?  I suspect that you're not very informed or involved in this particular issue.  I know where Obama stands on GLBT issues, I heard his response to the McClurkin snafu and I was left with a sense of dread.  He's a lying scheming pandering politician who's very similar to Hillary in certain basic ways; how can you have faith in someone like that?

        •  I do understand the issue... (0+ / 0-)

I do understand the power of the churches when it comes to this issue.  That is where you are wrong.

I don't see the pandering you do...I also think he is the best hope we have to stand up to the forces you describe.

Do what you want...I have faith he will do the best job possible.

so I thought I might learn something new and wise by clicking on this diary.  Maybe a nugget of wisdon to help me get through the lean times.

Perhaps how to save a bit more money on groceries, or how to get a little more distance out of each  gallon of gas, maybe cut back a few dollars on my electric and water bill.

Nope, no get less poor gimicks here.  No earn $5,000 per day in your PJ's just by opening and reading e-mails at home.

Just something I already knew after learning everything I could about this new guy who was running for President.

He seemed sincere.  He seemed to get it.  His wife, well she was just amazing. I couldn't even find any serious skeletons in his closet.  The best the repubs had on the man were lies about his religion and that silly flag pin thing.

He was raised by his grandparents and had a single mom who at some point needed to use foodstamps to make it.

I'm not one of the top 1%.  I'm much more one of the masses and I would love to have a President who will just tell me the truth.

I've made it through hard times before.  I'm ok with making it through hard times in the future as long as I have confidence that my government is actually working to improve things in the long run.

I'm willing to wait for things to turn around financially.  I not sure I can wait much longer for real hope.

Real hope makes great sense to me.
