Run,Hillary, Run! UPDATED with Movie Links

Fri May 09, 2008 at 07:39:06 AM PDT

I do not want Hillary Clinton to drop out any time soon. I want her to continue the suicidal course she is on and completely wreck her career as a politician. Then I want her to retire to Chappaqua, get her rich husband to pay off her campaign  debts and leave us alone for the rest of her life.

If she drops out now, she might still be left with a shred of dignity. She might be able to crawl her way back  into politics. Even pretend that she helped Obama get elected. But if she sticks around and continues to make racist statements like

Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me

her own supporters will abandon her.

I want her to at least get to the point where  she will get a primary challenge for Senate in 2012  . I don't want to have to vote for her again for Senate because no viable candidate can be found against her.

It is getting to the point where we are running out of movie analogies. Is she the Glen Close character in Fatal Attraction?

I won't be ignored

you can almost hear her scream.

Is she Thelma or Louise, about to run off the cliff?

Or the Black Knight?

It is just a flesh wound.

What is Hillary running for now? President of Appalachia?  The patron Saint of Lost Causes?  She is pretending her campaign is still alive. Like the parrot in the Monty Python sketch

HT to rf7777 and  NotGeorgeWill.

The final scene in Sunset Boulevard with  Gloria Swanson -- a one time starlet who has become completely delusional.
In the final scene she makes one last appearance thinking she's off to her next movie shot for her beloved fans -- when in reality the camera shot is just a ruse to get her out of the house with some dignity so that the police can haul her away . . . The final line:

Mr. Carville, I'm ready for my close-up

.

Hard to find anything more delusional than Sen. Clinton herself:

Here is another  analysis, as solid as Sen. Clinton:

HT to magi. Borg Queen

And finally a song for the Clinton campaign:

Poll

            •  There is life after November. My hope (0+ / 0-)

is that Clinton continue as long as possible so that she is totally discredited. By ridiculing her we diminish her and delay her supporter's assimilation into the party mainstream.

Barack will win in the GE. Sen. Clinton might continue to haunt the Party long after. I don't want that. It is that simple. That may not be your objective.

Besides, it is funnier than being the class monitor.

              •  We want the Clinton supporters to feel a part (0+ / 0-)

of the party, not just year-long losers who should be isolated, right?

It's a big party, but we actually have relatively common goals to drive as an electorate.  Delaying her supporters from being a part of something successful only creates more divisiveness and finger-pointing - the same crap we see from Sen. Clinton's campaign, and which we deride her personally for implementing, frankly.

And, as even kid oakland has eloquently stated, we aren't the party - her supporters are part of it, too.  That is, they've not all Hillaryis44 Kool-Aid drinkers, and to paint them otherwise is dishonest.

It doesn't do us a lick of good to emulate her campaign in this manner, IMHO.  Nor to appear as bad winners of the primary.

                •  I want to win the GE. But also to take back the (0+ / 0-)

Party from the Clinton wing. It is a big party, so not everyone has the same goal. We have a common goal to defeat McCain. There are also secondary goals, to reform the Democratic Party so that it doesn't become another Right Wing led by the Clintons.

The Clintons need to be diminished coming out of this. Sorry to be so blunt. Politics can be a tough game, as Sen. Clinton is the first to remind us.

We have six long months to take McCain apart. It will be a pleasure. He is already starting to lose his bearings.

And lighten up. You will have more of an audience if you show some sense of humor.

just not appropriate for this time of attempted reconciliation with fellow Democrats.

Sorry, but someone's gotta throw the wet trout around.

Like I said, from all reports it seems most of her supporters are regular people with good reasons for their opinions (like us, Edwards supporters, Gore supporters, etc), not the bat-shit crazies that support DLC-style triangulation no-matter-what or have emotionally invested in Hillary Clinton as some symbol of their own personality disorder.

In that respect, I wouldn't lay on the shaving cream pies quite yet.  Or, maybe at all.

Edwards is about to endorse Obama, it looks like.

There is a hardcore Clinton group that will go for McCain. There are attempts to intimidate SuperDelegats in congress by withholding contributions. We don't really need that group back.

I do want Sen. Clinton to become a subject of ridicule until she concedes. I will lighten up on her after that. I promise.

Besides, she is just too darn funny. The stuff almost writes itself.

It's just that the "sensible people" - who I repeat are the majority of her past supporters - could view this ridicule as twisting a knife or pouring salt in a wound.

But, now we're both repeating ourselves.

I've never liked Hillary Clinton as a representative, and voted against her in the Senate race primary.  But, I voted for her in the general - as selfishly tuned as she is, she was still better than the Republican.  I'd rather use this nomination run shite against her in the next primary, to be useful with it all.

the final shot of Gloria Swanson -- a one time starlet who has become completely delusional.

In the final scene she makes one last appearance thinking she's off to her next movie shot for her beloved fans -- when in reality the camera shot is just a ruse to get her out of the house with some dignity so that the policy can haul her away . . . The final line: "Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."

That's being kind of harsh, but when I see Clinton saying she's in it for "her fans" -- and then brings out self-serving arguments that seem to perpetuate the fantasy that the nomination is really hers -- that's what I think of.

At this stage I don't even mind if she does continue to run a campaign, but it needs to be done with an eye towards the party's interests in the general election.  If she's going to stay in it she needs to maintain a level of dignity -- if not for herself, than at least for the Democratic party's interests.

The arguments that she's made in the aftermath of the Tuesday vote though suggest that she's still in primary season mode ("there's still a long way to go"!  Even though the contest is about 93% of the way completed??!) -- it's as if there is some failure to acknowledge the proceeding several months.  There's a failure to acknowledge that the odds in front of her while still mathematically possible have grown exponentially longer.  It's just bizarre.  I understand it, but it's still bizarre.

If she was in it just so the remaining state's could vote -- so she could wind up the election season and thank people for showing up and supporting her -- that would be one thing.  But the argument that she advanced the other day revealed a level of desperation that was truly pathetic.

It stood contrary to her own career (and to the work of her husband) and it was completely at odds with what the Democratic party has stood for since 1964.  It was the worst kind of pandering -- near delusional.

So in that spirit I'm thinking this is the end of "Sunset Boulevard".

That's all she's got left of her base. The problem is that she is too negative and too self-destructive for this country. If she had run a positive and uplifting campaign, then she would have been the easy shoo-in for the nomination. The more she stays in, the more she becomes the butt of jokes and ridicule.
