I'm Going Shopping for a NEW PRESIDENT!

Fri May 09, 2008 at 04:00:28 PM PDT

My Bush bribe arrived today.  Money in my bank with which he tells me to "go consume."   As he told us to go shopping after 911, as he handed out credit cards to Katrina victims instead of shelter and food,  as he shipped pallet loads of money to Iraq - the guy only knows how to throw money at disasters - this economic disaster he created is no exception.

I'm going to spend my money on Democratic candidates, because I would like to buy back our constitution, our infrastructure, our health care, our security, and our dignity.

I encourage everyone else to take a bit of their "stimulus" package and rather than ship it over to the oil companies or the credit card companies, send it to the candidates you think will help restore our country.

I did that last time: sent that measly $300 straight to the Sierra Club because I felt that they were doing the best job at the time of challenging GWB.

This time, unfortunately, I was more selfish.  But I have sent in my share so I guess we're even :)

It'd last you through the economic hyperinflation that we're going to face if government spending (and uncontrolled money creation) is going to continue like the way it's been these past eight years. Stimuli packages aren't going to work the way things are going. Maybe either a drastic decrease, or a drastic increase in taxes would help with our inflation problem, but definitely not more government spending. (Remember, it's up to you to spend within your fiscal limits to make the economy better, and it's the government's job to stay out of the economy to make the it better.)

Bad economics isn't economics, it's just bad.

the WPA and other Works Projects employed the unemployed and put cash into the economy, helping pull the nation up by it's bootstraps from the depression.

The same kind of investment into our infrastructure could do the same today - repair or replace bridges (remember the Twin Cities?), build or refurbish public hospitals, schools, universities and other public facilities.

Living wage jobs, pump money into the national and local economies.

This is the one strategic move by the federal government in which SPENDING money makes sense.

      •  There is one big problem with this. (0+ / 0-)

You say the government needs to spend money, but where is this money coming from? Nowhere.

The government prints money (ie. creates out of thin air) in order to pay for these things. Unfortunately, it's that specific increase in the money supply that causes inflation to grow, which hinders economic growth by dramatically inflating prices.

Investment is worthless unless you have a currency that isn't diluted.

the music teacher from PA moved most of her stimulus check to her money market account and promptly sent in a donation to Barack Obama.  Thank you George Bush for stimulating me!

We NEED that money to make some fixes around the house that have been neglected due to lack of funds.  A hole in our kitchen ceiling, a fence (well, partial) for our backyard, a playset for our 3 year old (that my husband will build to save money) and a new windshield for our van- which was broken in a freak accident* 4 days ago.

*Funny story, I asked my husband to change our windshield wipers, and one of the blades slammed down, shattering the glass.  So much for having extra $$ for awhile.

    But Edwards suspended his campaign.
