(Update 2) Friday Super Delegate Open Thread (O + 3, C +0)

Fri May 09, 2008 at 04:22:03 AM PDT

Good morning fellow super delegate news junkies.   The trickle has been turning into a steady stream lately: +4 on Wednesday, +2 yesterday, and every day we get closer to that magical moment at which Obama will surpass Clinton in SDs - a nice media moment that will further confirm what everyone (finally) seems to realize: that Obama is the Democratic nominee.  According to ABC News' count, he already has (more on that below).

Consider this an open thread, and I will update throughout the day as news comes in.  All news tips are welcome, so if you hear of anything, please let us know in the comments.

In the meantime, we start the day off well with the news that Rep. Payne of New Jersey has switched from Clinton to Obama and Oregon Rep. DeFazio endorsed Obama as well.

UPDATE 1: Clinton picks up Rep. Carney from PA.

UPDATE 2: Obama wins endorsement of AFGE President John Gage.  That, by the way, comes with the union's endorsement!:

The American Federation of Government Employees endorsed Barack Obama Friday, giving the Illinois senator fresh momentum toward capturing the Democratic nomination for president.

"Our people, I think, recognize the enthusiasm and vitality behind Senator Obama's campaign," AFGE President John Gage said.

Gage, a previously uncommitted superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, said he is also personally endorsing Obama.

That makes today's official count:

Obama +3
Clinton +0 (-1 and +1)

TOTAL Super Delegate count (via DemConWatch - not updated as quickly as individual endorsements):
Clinton 269.5
Obama 263

Difference: 6.5

More on ABC's report, which I think may be a little premature, but here's how they list the different counts of super delegates:

ABC
OBAMA 267
CLINTON 265

CBS
CLINTON  271
OBAMA 261

CNN
CLINTON 268
OBAMA 258

NBC
CLINTON 274
OBAMA 260

AP
CLINTON 271
OBAMA 256

New York Times
CLINTON 263
OBAMA 258

Politico
CLINTON 268.5
OBAMA 260

Washington Post (uses AP statistics)
CLINTON 271
OBAMA 256

I think they're being a bit aggressive, but the fact that they are reporting it shows what a big news story it will be when it's a clear-cut lead.  Will it be today?

Again, I will update the thread throughout the day, so all tips and recs are welcome so we can update the news.
