It seems like something he could address here rather than on MSNBC. It's my assumption that a much higher percentage of Kossacks know of Greenwald vs. MSNBC viewers. The subject of Greenwald's critique (Olbermann's approach to Bush on FISA vs. Obama on FISA) is also of particular interest to our community.

... but it's not because Olbermann hasn't posted a diary on Kos in the last couple of weeks.  More because he's seemed to have been forced by his network to capitulate on some key issues, what with the telcom companies having a huge holding on the cable news business, and all.  And in this instance, I don't think he's allowed to say that "my producers forced me to do it", the way he used to when he had to cover bullshit celebrity stories about Britney and Brangelina.

This diary blows. KO blogs every two or three weeks here with a new diary and yet everyone is jumping to conclusions that he is probably too upset by negative comments to ever return or he is still grieving.

Here's a thought...he's doing exactly what he's done all along...checking in every two or three weeks, with a new diary.

Unlike politicians, many of whom have been burned here, never to return, and most of the rest of whom come back only when it's time to add to the fundraising list, Olbermann has no reason to come back here.  He's probably gone for good.

that he wasn't happy about many of the comments regarding his friend's death.  From his comments, he seemed to feel that many of the comments were insensitive.  He probably feels the need to leave for a while.  He could be angry - who knows?

but people should be reminded.  Sometimes there's no right answer and you want to see what everyone else said.

He is simply a 22-year old kid whose opinion may or may not be based on special experience or insight.  There are a host of well-informed, thoughtful and incisive opinions from 22-year old post-graduates across the breadth of this nation, but we simply don't have enough information about Luke Russert to know if he merits inclusion in this group.

Really, the self-indulgence of the media culture in this country, and our collective indulgence of their narcissistic excess, is rapidly becoming absurd.

Soviet Russia didn't give Stalin the kind of send-off that NBC gave Russert -- an irony which, no doubt, both amuses and disturbs him, if he is concerned at all with such trivia in his new state of being.

Looking at candidates as party nominees has gotten us stuck with the Blue Dogs and others -- when it comes to the primaries, we need to start looking closer at who we're supporting. Of course, when I was Luke's age I voted for John Anderson because I was upset over his economic failures and the Iran hostage situation, but I could not in good conscience vote for Ronald Reagan.

political leanings and maybe that is what his dad taught him, the fact that he worked for Gov Cuomo and Sen Moynihan  should give you all you need to know about his politics, he was the son of a garbage man, he grew up in a union home most likely, and there are few people on TV with Russerts credibilty

But he has also been, at times, petty and self-indulgent.  And this recent on-air feud with Page Six of the NY Post smacks more of ambitious self-promotion than righteous indignation.

It disappointed me, because, frankly, I WANTED Olbermann to be the reincarnation of Murrow.

But no amount of adolescent wish-fulfillment on my part is ever going to make Olbermann into Murrow.

Agreed. Keith is sometimes a bit over the top presentation wise. But no one else is speaking truth to power on a nightly basis.

Obama failed this acid test. He did not "cower", he "caved" to the Telcos and gave them their 'get out of jail free' card.

I forget if it was Alter or someone else on Countdown that said something like "Obama is a career politician" to this vote should not shock anyone. Well, it shocked me because Obama had me BELIEVING in his change. Shame on me for believing a politician.

So you are right. If Keith doesn't call Obama on this soon, then he has failed his own "Edward R. Murrow " acid test.

Just seems like a miscalculation on his part - kinda like Trent Lott being booed at Wellstone's funeral - yes it was a bit unseemly.  But OTOH, completely understandable.

It's been some two weeks since Russert died, the time for mourning is fading! Fading I tell you. And that is the time allotment for grieving. Yep. Let it be written and let it be done. Heh. (Hopefully obvious snark here)

Unreal, who is the diarist to tell others how long they can grieve for? Geeesh, last time I checked, one was allowed to grieve as long as they damn well pleased.
