What ever happened to Keith Olbermann?

by Vincenzo GiambatistaFollow

As a longtime fan of the MSNBC network and the Keith and Wesley show in particular, I am somewhat dismayed to see Keith's disappearance from these pages in the past two weeks or so. It's a rare newsman who comes down from the high perch of the anchor's chair to interact and mingle with the common viewer.

Keith Olbermann is truly a man of the people, one who gives voice to the many who've gone unheard in Bush's mass media. But to see such a man turn away from the same is a sad thing indeed.

His last post here, references the recent passing of the late, great Tim Russert, though I could swear I'd seen other slightly more recent comments from him on topics that escape me.

Now of course, the death of Tim Russert was a genuine tragedy for America and NBC especially, but some two weeks later, the time for mourning is fading. Russert was, after all, just a talk show host and one widely criticized by prominent left wing bloggers, ranging from Glenn Greenwald to Matthew Yglesias, at that. The show must go on! And indeed it does at 8 pm every weekday (7 Central) -- but not on Daily Kos.

I hope Keith will soon lay his grieving aside lend his voice once more to our recommended diary section.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
