Obama back up 47%-46% in Rasmussen

There was a lot of freaking out on DailyKos when Rasmussen's tracking poll had McCain taking a 47%-46% lead over Obama, when leaners were included. I was part of that freak out, not particularly because I thought Obama was falling behind in the race, but that McCain had seemingly broken that 45% barrier that had filled me with the confidence that we would win in November. Then, Zogby issued a telephone poll with McCain up 42%-41%.

But, since then, Gallup has bounced Obama to a 47%-43% lead and I assumed that Rasmussen would be soon to follow. Gallup's tracking poll tends to pick up movement in the race faster than Rasmussen.

On the flip.

Rasmussen:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 45% of the vote while and John McCain earns 43%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 47% and McCain 46%.

Yesterday, the race was tied at 44% with McCain getting 47% to Obama's 46% after leaners.

Rasmussen also had some interesting poll numbers on the "key issues" questions.

The highlight is that McCain is tied with Obama on energy, 44% for each. And the economy, 45% each. I figure these numbers are the residual from McCain's high point in polling over the last couple of days. I expect these numbers to come down.

One thing is clear to me, I think... when Obama goes on the attack and reminds people what they don't like about McCain, his poll numbers increase. When he plays softball and the "oh gosh, he's just being a typical Washington politician" game, his poll numbers go down. Something for the O-Camp to think about.

Maybe Americans like a little bite in their politicians after all.
