A poem on the conflict in the West Bank between Israel and Hamas. Titled: "Brothers at War"
Twin brothers locked in mortal combat,
Drawing today’s blood for yesterday’s struggle,
New blood for old blood,
Mother’s crying,
Brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters dying,
Dying to kill the other by killing themselves,
Thoughts of virgins bring the young to darkness,
Many prefer the peace of the night to the chaos of day,
Children are afraid to sleep alone.
Meaningless, useless words,
Murderer, martyr, good, and evil,
Even time is relative,
Observers stop to watch,
Helping their favorite; hurting their least,
Hastening the carnage ‘till boredom turns them away,
Suffering for sand and symbols,
Words of peace; words of love,
Prophets forgotten in madness,
Life and death sing duet,
Bleeding drains souls and energy,
If only in a moment’s pause they noticed that their blood had become one again.
