Well, it's Friday, the second day of 2009. Most of you got some presents and are now finished with the returns. Maybe you've spent some money on yourself, or cashed in a gift certificate for something nice.
Here's your chance to brag about your new favorite material possessions! It's the Official Daily Kos Present Roundup and Roll Call!
I know you're saying, "Droogs, I appreciate the effort, but yesterday was New Year's Day and tomorrow is Saturday. Most people have cool enough bosses to let them have a day off today and they're probably not going to spend it here."
Well, call it consideration on my part. I don't want to waste the site's time with such a shallow, materialistic diary when the place is humming.
I know what else you're saying. You're saying, "Droogs, these are hard times, you callous shitkick. How dare you write this diary now?" Well, not all presents come in packages, boxes or bags, as the Grinch found out. Maybe you'd like to talk about a holiday moment or memory that meant a lot to you. It doesn't have to be something that came from a store.
So here we go.
Cut it, paste it, make it your own!
Name: droogie
Age: 26
Location: Oklahoma
Relationship: Married for 4 years
Kids?: Yes. One 9-month old beauty.
What holiday did you celebrate: Kind of a secular version of Christmas. We didn't go to church or anything, so I'd say it was non-Jesusy.
Favorite presents this year: I got a new computer, and a cast iron skillet that I've already used to cook sausage and eggs. I got Season 1 of the X-Files that me and Mrs. D have been nerding out with nightly. I got a 12-yo Speyside scotch by The Balvenie, but I haven't broken into it yet.
Least favorite presents this year:I got an electronic whisk from my mom, but she misunderstood what I was asking for. I just wanted a regular old hand-powered whisk. Makes stirring things easier. Also, I asked for the audio version of "The Kid Stays in the Picture" by Robert Evans. I'm told this is funny stuff. Instead, I got the book. So no Robert Evans narration. Oh well.
Favorite present EVAR: Looking back, that was probably the Super Nintendo system I got back in the day. Seeing Mario in 16 gorgeous bits was a highlight. Plus, there were some great games for that console over the years. These days, it's harder to tell which console you should buy than it used to be.
Least favorite present EVAR: When my little brother was born, my parents got me (a widdle boy at the time) a Cabbage Patch doll. My mom had read in some magazine that having a baby doll would help me adjust to having a little baby brother in the house. Instead, I was just confused. This is a girl's toy! I'm a boy! This is the eighties! This will not stand. I wound up giving the doll to a neighborhood girl and getting along with my brother just fine.
Have fun!
