Hi Fellow Progressives,
Here it is almost the eve of the end of the Bush nightmare! HOOORAY!!!
You may not know it but, I was completely apolitical until Howard Dean made his "What I want to know" speech at the California Democratic Convention in 2003. He inspired me to rejoin the Democratic Party and become one of the blades of grass in his improbable grassroots campaign for president in 2004.
His campaign was so underfunded that we had to create our own swag to get his name out there, so being the go-getters that we were, that's exactly what we did. The local group I was in, East Bay for Democracy, designed some text for a tee shirt and since I had a business license I went ahead and had them produced at a local union printing shop (thank you Alliance Graphics.) We produced thousands of these shirts, and other swag, and using the funds from the sale of them we spread the progressive word in those dark days of spineless democratic "leadership" in Washington.
If not for all the work we did, and for the Dean campaign's saavy use of the internet, we may well be looking at a (shudder) McCain/Palin presidency beginning in 17 days instead of Obama's "people-powered" rise to the office!!!
Sure, there's still a lot of work to do and the Bushies have broken, looted, and destroyed damn near everything they got their greedy little hands on, but look how far we've come in just a few short years!
A lot of the credit must go to Howard Dean for his courage in being one of the first to point out that the "Emperor had no clothes", for being openly against the Iraq invasion (enduring ridicule and hostility from even his own party) and for his winning 50-state-strategy, as chairman of the Democratic Party, which helped Obama kick the Repblican Party to the curb!
I've been doing some organizing/cleaning and came across several boxes of "swag" from the Howard Dean for President days. If you appreciate Howard Dean like I do, and If you would like to own a piece of the history we've just lived, I still have a bunch of tees, sweatshirts, bumper stickers and pins left and would really love to share them around.
I have some of the tees listed on Craig's List but I can also send you jpegs of any of the items if you wish.
I also have 4 XL sweatshirts and 5 baseball-style hats, plus a couple hundred bumper stickers and pins. Please let me know if you're interested in any of this swag. Thanks!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!
UPDATE:
I also found a slew of bumperstickers and pins in my cache and have posted them as well on Craig's List.
Oh, and Rahm Emmanuel can GO TO HELL! There's my poem for the day!
