As I sit here staring expectantly at my Backwards Bush clock (15 days, 17 hours, 8 minutes, 21 seconds) I got to reminiscing, and recalled the FIRST Bush scandal (post election, anyway). Remember what it was?
Here's hint. It was a lie that is still being repeated, most recently by Babwa Wahwah in November on The View (about 4:30 on this Youtube), where she is talking about "$50,000 in intentional damage."
The first scandal was when Rove let loose the story that the Clinton staff had vandalized the White House. And Bush magnanimously asked everyone to just forget it. (Awwww. Isn't he NICE?!!!)
And the "librul" media was all over it.
Quothe Andrea Mitchell.
Phone lines cut, drawers filled with glue, door locks jimmied so that arriving Bush staff got locked inside their new offices...
But kindly Mr. Bush said, aw shucks, let bygones be bygones. (What a regular guy! I really want to have a beer with him!)
Unfortunately for Bush, not all lawmakers had figured out yet that pretty much anything coming out of his mouth is a lie. And Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga. and other stalwarts demanded justice be done, and an accounting be made.
And the GAO did a full investigation (at the cost of $200,000), and wrote a 217-page report, that said...didn't happen.
Now here's the interesting part. The claim was $50K (or so) in damages, and the media goes ape-sh#t. The truth turns out that $200K was wasted deflating a right-wing lie. And crickets.
Not only did they barely cover exposing the lie, they are STILL repeating it.
Could it be the media is not so librul after all?
By the way, the only reason I knew better is I heard about it on Air America. Find a station near you.
(Actually, this lie started in May 2001, but since it referred back to day-one at the White House, I'm back-dating it as scandal #1. Poetic bloggers license.)
