I guess the title almost says it all...but I know folks here like to know methods and questions for polls. This one was a very NY-centric poll and my first experience with a robo-poll. I live in New York and do not support Caroline Kennedy for the Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton. I nornally don't get a lot of telemarketer calls so I almost hung up...but once they identified themselves I knew that I could not pass up the opportunity to get polled. So, for all of you that say "no one I know ever gets polled, they are pure BS" at least one Kos reader got tapped by Scotty R.
Cutting to the chase, the questions were almost all on a 5-point Liekert scale (Strongly Approve, Approve, Medium, etc.), except for the Yes/No questions. I got asked (my answers in para):
Approval of President-Elect Obama. (Strongly Approve)
Approval of Governor David Paterson (Approve)
Approval of Caroline Kennedy. (Slightly Disapprove)
Approval of Peter King. (bad luck for him, I know who he is (R Congressman from Long Island)- Strongly Disapprove)
It gets a little more interesting here:
If the Senate election of 2010 were held today, would you vote for Caroline Kennedy (D), Peter King (R), or Someone Else? (Someone Else)
Is Caroline Kennedy qualified to be a Senator? (No)
Is Caroline Kennedy the best choice to replace Hillary Clinton? (No)
Would Caroline Kennedy be a better/worse/about the same Senator as Hillary Clinton? (Worse).
This is going to be a painful headline in tomorrow's papers if the polling goes like I think it will:
Would Caroline Kennedy even be considered for the Senate if her name was not Kennedy? (No)
Do you think that families like the Bushes and Kennedys have too much influence in State and National affairs? In other words, do you think that there is an aristocracy developing (No)
It then turned to local topics in the news:
Do you think "sin taxes" like taxes on soda and internet downloads is a good way to balance the budget? (Yes)
Can New York balance it's budget without a tax hike? (No)
An finally some consumer confidence:
Do you think the United States will be in a recession at the end of 2009? (Yes)
I was then asked my sex, age, and household income.
