I wish I could alter reality
from my very own comforting sanctuary
I'd erase all the bullies from the palm of my hand
Or change a rock group to a peruvian flute band
I'd alter every single necessity
And make a change or two to go my way
I'd alter every language and maybe change time
And make fresh apples taste of lime
Could I even make a word that rhymes with orange?
No, it's easier to make a rubber door-hinge
I wish I could alter reality
If you saw though my eyes then you'd see
That not everything has to be left
to be precisely the same .. but that's just me.
Take the bus to middle school..
Our son wrote this as a poetry assignment for his 6th grade English class. He penned this poem and drew a picture, superimposed over it. The picture was of a boy who started out dark haired and blue eyed and ended up blond haired and brown eyed with blue green skin. If he could alter reality.
This child, our youngest son, has had to deal with bullies throughout his childhood because he is Aspergers. He doesn't process social signals like most of us do but he always had friends until now. From third grade on we always had his friends here for play dates and sleep overs.
This year, his first in middle school the friends he had in elementary school have gone poof. They no longer call him and for some reason he has become persona non grata to the point that his former friends consider him a toxic friend killer. None of his former friends will talk to him for fear of being shunned theirownselves. WTF?????
Overt bullying is easy to fight but shunning? You can't force others to like you or even give you a chance. Our son has no idea why his former buds will no longer even talk to him.
I wish I could alter reality.
