As many of you know, on Monday I signed up to be enlisted in the Navy. Today, it's a done deal.
Initially, I was going to go up to MEPS (Military Enlistment Processing Station) today to take the ASVAB but I ended up going up a day early. I took the test yesterday and without preparing for it at all, I scored a 94 out of 99 which apparently is ridiculously good.
After I took the test, I was taken to a hotel where all of the other would be recruits would be housed overnight before being taken back to MEPS the next morning. Unfortunately, there was a faulty smoke detector which went off 3 times starting at midnight. It was pouring rain outside. Oh, did I mention we were scheduled to wake up at 4am to be taken back to MEPS by 6? Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep.
We arrived at MEPS before dawn and spent the day there getting all manner of medical tests out of the way. It was a long and tedious process which was very annoying and involved quite a bit of waiting.
After all of that was over with, I waited some more until I was told what jobs I qualified for. Since, I had told them I wanted to leave sooner than later, they narrowed down my options to 2. I picked the one they recommended, Advanced Electronics Computer Field which came highly desired. I never had much of an interest in that before, but apparently it is quite useful once I return to civilian life.
After I signed the the paper work and was fingerprinted, I took my oath and swore in. I am now a member of the US Navy Reserves until I get shipped off to Boot Camp.
