We voted for change and President Obama even wrote a book on the Audacity of Hope. If Tim Tebow does not represent that audacity of hope (besides our President) - I am not sure who does. After our Gator Celebration party today I caught the final comments he made concerning our well deserved National Championshiop. The letter follows. (submitted at Change.gov).
President Obama:
You must know something about leadership or you never would have gotten elected. However, I have no confidence in your opinions about college football. 1. You graduated from Hahvahd 2. You have never seen Tim Tebow play.
Tim Tebow was home schooled and spends his time off the field in mission work to orphanages, leper colonies, and many other needy hotspots around the world. He wears Phillipians 4:13 on his face paint - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. He is a light in mine and my sons life who have been victims of domestic violence - I hold him up as a role model to my son. Tim Tebow is also nicknamed superman - but I don't think Superman has the relationship with Christ that Tim Tebow does and he gets his power from some inferior place, not from his heavenly father.
The other teams who may feel left out do not deserve any sympathy. Rather they should get on their knees and pray to their heavenly father to find out how they can be role models to their team mates and their fans and how to go into all the world and serve their fellow man. Maybe if the teams followed this model they might be succesful..
Tim Tebow leads his team to victory from the greatest leader role model of all time - The Son of Man who laid down his life for us.
I know you are a religious man and probably were not properly briefed on Tim Tebow before you made the comments about the National Championship in Gator Nation.
I respect that you want to modify the BCS to have play offs, many coaches and fans including Steve Spurrier and even UF's Urban Meyer feel that way.
Tim Tebow is in a long line of leadership that extends from Danny Wuerfell, Jack Youngblood, Steve Spurrier, Wilbur Marshall, and Emmitt Smith.
Our Defensive Coach Charlie Strong is one of the most succesful black defensive coaches in the country.
In congratulating the Gators but giving voice to their detractors you very much dissed a team who leads academicallly, spiritually, and in service to their fellow man. Tim Tebow always thanks his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for his victories. The quarterbacks of the other teams you mention do not.
Before every came the team huddles and Tim Tebow walks around and touches each of the players.
When the Gators visit the White House to be honored for their national championship, I hope you are fortunate to have a private session with Tim Tebow and ask him to pray for you.
I pray for Tim Tebow everyday so that he can be a role model to children and adult fans, especially the ones who are suffering under these dire times.
I am sure you agree now is the time our country needs a hero. That would be Tim Tebow. Selfless, Leader, Spiritual, Servant, Academian, Strong, Enthusiastic, and Joyful.
I am looking forward to your honoring him appropriately when you invite the Gators to the White House. Then next year you can look forward to being awed by the performance of one of our country's greatest athletes. Of course, he will defer to his higher power, his team mates, and staff, as he is humble about his accomplishments.
Again, too bad, so sad, for the other teams, but some knee time and service time to their heavenly father could help propel them on to great things like National Championships as it has for Tim Tebow.
In spite of his accomplishments on the field, he views his service to God and fellow man as being more important. So when he faces setbacks on the field, they are inferior to the suffering he has seen and put into a much larger perspective making ti easy to bounce back from.
It is a shame that even though he won the most votes to win the Hei15man a second time he was not awarded the trophy. Now that is something to quibble about.
Naturally all of Gator Nation was praying for their National Championship as well.
It's Great Tebow a Florida Gator,
Tavane Griffith

Note to DailyKos supporters: Even though I attend a culturally conservative church, I am spiritually and culturally progressive - I do not at all fit into the same mold just because I am a Christian. I do not consider myself to be part of one of the most hypocritical and judgemental groups in our country today. That is why Tim Tebow is an example for all. He puts his higher power first, service to fellow man second, and success in school and on the field third. If Tim Tebow were president, that would be just fine with me.
