Hi F.O.O.! A number of items for "this day in history" caught my eye. The first one may or may not tweek the interest for us baseball fans (Hi Keith!); on this date in 1954, baseball player Joe Dimaggio and actress Marilyn Monroe were married at San Francisco City Hall. They weren't married for very long because he wanted her to give up acting after all the hooting & hollering from passers - by during the filming of the famous "subway grate" scene in 7 Year Itch. He carried a torch for her the rest of his life, though, and whenever she got in trouble, he was always there for her like the proverbial white knight.
Here's just a couple more items of note...
George C. Wallace was sworn in as governor of Alabama with a pledge of "segregation forever" on this date in 1963. Did he have one of those late - in - life changes of heart about race because he feared for his immortal soul, or did he spin in his grave on Election Day because he was racist to the end?
And, happy birthday to Academy - Award - winning actor, Faye Dunaway! Her "break - through" role, I think, was as Bonnie Parker in Bonnie & Clyde. She also, of course, portrayed Joan Crawford in Mommie, Dearest ("No wire hangers - EVER!"). And, her Oscar - winning role was for [insert drum roll here]... NETWORK! Here's clip from this great movie that is required viewing for anyone interested in the "evolution" (or devolution) of "main - stream media."
Let's Countdown!
#5 "Justice Denied" AKA "Tortured Justice" AKA "America’s Torture Scars" AKA "No Justice for 9/11" - We tortured Mohammed al - Qahtani , "the 20th hijacker," according to Susan Crawford, the Military Commissions Convening Authority at the Pentagon (meaning she is the one in charge of deciding what cases down in Gitmo get tried) and LIFE – LONG REPUB! And, she knew there was no point in bringing him to trial because any evidence from him would be thrown out. Ms. Crawford better watch out for a parting gift of a Halliburton – esque nature that could turn her insides into liquid $hit. And, we heard from OBL today. Keith, people who have no problems with "enhanced interrogation techniques" will call Ms. Crawford a disgruntled employee or something; her admission won’t bother them in the least. There’s my Richard Wolffe! Wow, Richard tapped into Rumsfeld mind – set a little too easily; that can’t be a nice place. That was a great analogy about the rooster thinking its crowing caused the sunrise! OK Mr. Obama & Mr. Holder (if you end up getting the AG nod), if the admission from the Military Commissions Convening Authority at the Pentagon that torture has occurred at Gitmo isn’t enough for you to prosecute those responsible in GWB’s administration, then, hell, I don’t know what is.
#4 "Rewriting History" AKA "Exit Laughing" AKA "The Long Goodbye" - DICK said the GWB administration made no mistakes – just underestimations. Whatever... Jim Lehrer should get a free exorcism & purification for having to spend an extended amount of time with DICK, and DICK’s still trying to make that Sadaam – 9/11 connection. GWB never called anyone names; don’t forget that! That guy who made the videotaped speech at the GOP convention was his evil twin, I guess. There’s Scott McClellan; I’m sorry, but he’s still not one of my favorite people. I think I probably differ with Keith on that score. Scott, you didn’t "candidly acknowledge" the bull$hit you were spewing at the White House press corps with Scooter Libby & such, so don’t be protesting quite so much.
** AAAaaaaWWWwww! Wasn’t that sweet of Keith to say good – night to his niece & nephew?! Too cute! There was almost a needless Wii – on – puppy lethal incident in Michigan. And, a parking gate in London lifted a BMW off the ground; those Brits must make those parking gates real good! Oh Keith, did we really need American Idol news – even though it involved Ryan Seacrest being a goober?! **
#3 "Injustice Department" AKA "Search for Justice" - Eric Holder’s confirmation hearing is tomorrow. I hope that’s on NPR; I WILL listen to that! WOW! I GOT JONATHAN TURLEY TONIGHT, TOO! Hot damn! Professor Turley is less – than – confident that a DOJ in the Obama administration will go back & look into the shenanigans of the DOJ over the last 8 years. But, I think he’s "willing" to sacrifice that for investigations into war crimes by this administration; I agree. We’ve got bigger & worse fish (or tofu for you vegetarians) to fry. Wow, there’s been miserable attorneys in the DOJ for a long long time. I don't think I could've stuck it out for that long.
BUSHED! "Tanner – Gate" A racist jerk is still in a racially – sensitive job in Alabama. "How to Spend Your Waning Days – Gate" "The comedian" had a birthday dinner with GWB on Monday; hell, there were no winners in that room full of losers the other day! I’m sure the cake that GWB gave him wasn’t nearly as entertaining or memorable as mine was. "Bailout – Gate" The bailout money is going to the people who caused the situation that required a bailout. Sweet!
WPITW – Glenn Beck called Mr. Obama a Marxist. But, I thought we weren’t supposed to be calling anyone "communists" or "Marxists" anymore; I’m confused! Some conservative writer doesn’t think Mr. Obama will have a war to deal with. Senator Jim Inhofe stuck his foot in his pie – hole again.
#1 "Dinner with the Opposition" AKA "Breaking Bread" AKA "Meeting Moxie" - Mr. Obama had dinner at George Will’s house last night with some other neocon nutjob "columnists" like Bill Kristol. I hope Mr. Obama deloused afterwards! He was with a more fun group today. E.J. Dionne & "our" Rachel Maddow were part of it! Just because George Will et al broke bread with Mr. Obama doesn’t mean they’ll stop ragging on him; it ain’t gonna happen. We’re going to have a calm adult in the Oval Office next week! REALLY?! DID WE REALLY ELECT HIM??!! ;D
