How to participate in the National Day of Service if your going to be in a bus all day on your way to the Inauguration.

A number of "Campaign for Change" volunteers here in Columbia, MO were faced with the dilemma of what to do to participate in the National Day of Service. We are going to be in the midst of a cross country bus trip to DC to attend the Inauguration. We will be departing from Columbia, Mo at 8:00pm on Sunday night the 18th and arriving in Ricmond, VA around 5:00 on the 19th.
Our solution was to put together a "Cross Country Food Drive". Our itenerary has us stopping off at the town of Beckley, WV at 10:15 on Monday the 19th. We are in the process of collecting canned goods and clothing for the local Salvation Army. The Captain of the Salvation Army will be dispatching a truck to our stop off point to collect the items we have collected. We have gotten great feed back for this event. We have people as far away as Illinois sending goods in for this food drive.
We have even had West Virginia Public Radio contact us. They will be airing a story. I had an opportunity to encourage local residents to stop by and meet us and drop off some goods as well. I hope this post encourages all those that read to find a way to actively participate in the National Day of Service even in the face of obstacles.
