I've always been interested in "bad science," and I sometimes check out places like Free Republic to see what new nonscience is making its way into the wingnut canon. Tonight, I found something that even some Freepers wish would go away:
This is the kind of article that provides cannon fodder for daily kos, DU, and MSNBC.
What kind? This kind:
"Alien Abductions Stopped By the Name of Jesus Christ"...
Stephen Yulish, PhD (I'd link to his website but it's just a list of his books for sale on Amazon), believes in lots of things. He believes that the end of the Mayan calendar cycle is a forecast of the End Times:
I cannot tell you for certain that the earth will be consumed by fire in 2012 or that there will be a polar shift or severe earthquakes, but I can tell you with certainty that one day in the not too distant future it will be consumed by fire and experience a polar shift and severe earthquakes. I can say that because the word of God says so [emphasis mine] and it did beginning over 2700 years ago, long before the Mayans or the Aztecs or the Hopi or the Seneca or the I-Ching or Nostradamus.
And he believes in UFOs:
I have been studying the UFO phenomena for fifty years. Even though I have never actually seen an UFO, they have always fascinated me and I likewise have always felt that they were real and would reveal to us something very important about ourselves and our destiny.
And when he puts Biblical inerrancy and UFOs together (from the same article)...
But if we deconstruct UFOs though a Biblical worldview, we will see that these so called extraterrestrials are instead fallen angels, demonic beings, who have visited us over the ages in order to deceive us and lead us into sin. They are here in force now to deceive those left behind in the upcoming Rapture to believe instead that these people were abducted by them into UFOs.
Fortunately, Dr. Yulish assures us that these agents of Satan can be thwarted, thanks to the unceasing vigilance of the Alien Abduction Termination Team:
CE 4 Research is an alien abduction research group based in Cocoa, Florida on the Space Coast. CE 4 first distinguished themselves from all other UFO and Abduction research groups by being the first to publish - from within the UFO community - documented cases of abductions being halted by calling on the name & authority of Jesus Christ.
You can't argue with that (well, I guess you could, but it would be a waste of breath against a True Believer).
