Yes, we are in DC having a great time with my sister and brother-in-law. Mount Vernon and Arlington yesterday. Smithsonian goodness this morning. Just got back from dinner in Georgetown. Spent the afternoon at the Vietnam and Korean Memorials this afternoon before stopping at the Lincoln Memorial to watch Springsteen rehearse for tomorrow's concert.
(Before I tell you anything else, you have to print out the following and tape it to your bathroom mirror:)
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Okay then. Shall we?
As for the rest? My sis and bro-in-law live 10 blocks from the capitol. Their apartment is great. We're close to everything. We have tickets to the swearing in. We are very, very lucky.
So here's the awful truth: The only FP's I can claim is that my feet hurt from all of the running around and that this is late because we're staying so close to Union Station that Barack's arrival by train tonight delayed our being able to return to the apartement.
But that's the sum total of my angst. I'm here in DC with a scadzillion other lucky, joyful citizens. Everywhere I turn, people are smiling. Cheerful. Helpful. strangers chat, hug, wish one another well and part with promises to look for one another in Tuesday's crowd.
Everyone you run into in town is so excited. The anticipation is electric. At the Indian restaurant where we ate this evening, all of the wait staff was gathered around the TV watching the train as it pulled into Union staton. We all cheered when the Obamas departed the train.
I wish for all of you this feeling. The feeling of hope and the future and of really being able to love people around you even if all you know about them is their political bent.
If I have an FP, it's that YOU and not HERE. I can't share this with you directly. This good will. This pervasive, contageous "Yes!"
Come Tuesday, MrCJB and KidCJB and I will be in the standing area at the back of the lawn, between the seated area and Capital Circle. I can't even imagine how ramped up the pitch will be by then. I can't wait.
I don't think I'd be here if it weren't for all of you. I wouldn't have maintained the level of interest it took to encourage KidCJB to do what he did to get tickets. I'm here because of the time I've spent with you over the last few years. And I wish you were all here.
What's your F*#*@n' problem?
