I am a very enthusiastic fan of The Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson. Not only am I pleased that an openly gay man has attained such a position of leadership, but I am continually impressed by the dignity and style that he brings to what is a very challenging role. This diary is a collection of links I have found about his day at the inauguration.
If there's anybody reading this who has been hibernating in Antarctica, Robinson was invited to pray at Sunday's concert after Rick Warren of the religious right was invited to pray at the inauguration. HBO cut Robinson's prayer out of the broadcast.
We start with Gene's personal blog as he describes his day.

He appeared on Comedy Central last night and makes it apparent that he could have been a successful stand up comedian.
I don't know how to do the video link, so I'll have to tell the joke, but it's better if you watch the video. Jon Stewart asked him if it was difficult being a bishop since that meant that he could only move diagonally. The good bishop replied, "Well Jon, you have to understand that there's a queen on the board."
He explanation of his role in the inauguration was very possitive and upbeat and clearly an effort to keep the doors open without compromising his personal integrity.
It appears that he had a very gracious exchange with Rick Warren at the inauguration. After all the fumbling by HBO and the inauguration committee to come up with an excuse for cutting him out on Sunday, they have decided to do a rebroadcast.
As a gay man who has been involved in struggles for a lot of years, this man reminds me that you can stand up for gay rights and still be dignified about it.
You tell em Gene!
