After 2 years studying, presenting and debating issues of climate change as part of Al Gore's Climate project, I found myself with a wealth of original graphic material that I had developed on my own to illustrate the finer points of global climate. I've maintained a busy schedule, and have spoken to many thousands of Michigan citizens. Still, I am frustrated by the amount of bogus disinformation in the media, and trying to come up with a way to reach wider audiences.
At one lecture last spring, a local person taped the talk and posted it on the local cable channel.
I quickly realized that I reached more people on the cable channel than I had in most talks. This lead to a
series of monthly cable shows of my own that whetted my appetite for the medium. I posted some of those on
YouTube, and got a positive reaction.
This caused me to think in terms of video made specifically for YouTube - quick, 4, 5 or 6 minute hits on one of the toxic disinformation factoids that rocket around the media sphere. I continue to check and double check my information with heavy hitters in the climate world.
The first installment of Climate Denial Crock of the Week went up last week, and took off more quickly than any of my other pieces, and now I've posted the second installment for 1/21/09.
I think this is a way to reach a lot of people I haven't reached before- I hope I can get some feedback from this group.
