Justice Roberts has this evening sworn President Obama in for a second time.
This feels like Alice In Wonderland. Apparently, because there was a slight flub in administering the oath on Tuesday, tonight Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time to President Obama. Why?
Is there some crazy technicality that might actually apply here? Is it to shut down wingnut talk that Obama is not President because of the imperfect way the oath was administered the first time?
Before you conclude this is entirely crazy, consider history. Allegedly, Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur each took the oath a second time under similar (?) circumstances.
I hope the Obama administration is not going to get so bogged down in technicalities that it becomes paralyzed doing do-overs. Say it ain't so.
Or should the President have to take the oath every day of his tenure just so we can be sure he understands his Constitutional responsibilities?
