I am not sure when the "traditional" media has stopped providing analysis of any kind and I am not always sure where to go get this information.
The NY Times' headline helpfully informs me that the Republicans oppose the stimulus package (news at 11) but the article doesn't tell me much about the only issue I (and other everyday people) care about: does it matter ?
Here are questions I would love a NY Times "article" to answer using fancy techniques such as "reporting", "interviewing sources" and "analyzing information":
Which Senate Republicans are likely to put country first and vote for some version of the stimulus package ? Susan Collins ? Others ? We only need two!
I don't care that John McCain wants tax cuts - I already knew that from the interminable campaign. I care about finding out whether there are rational Republicans in the senate.
What are the president's men and women doing to persuade the small minority of rational Republicans to vote yes ?
What are the consequences to not passing a package until mid-February ?
etc.
It would be nice if the press could do some investigative reporting that doesn't have to do with Michelle Obama's dresses or Caroline Kennedy's motives.
