Sorry for the long wait. I've finally got some new bird pics, taken on a birding excursion in Florida.
Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area that includes the northernmost remnant of the Everglades. It is home to the Snail Kite, and over 250 other species of birds.
juvenile Snail Kite:
Another part of the refuge consists of ditches and ponds that have been dug to specific depths in order to accommodate different plant and bird species. Waders are plentiful here, and you will see different kinds in different depths of water.
Little Blue Heron
Tricoloured Heron in breeding plumage
Great Egret in breeding plumage
Limpkin
Purple Galinule
Reddish Egret (actually taken at Merritt Island, on a trip I didn't go on.)
There's more to come next Sunday, so stay tuned!
For more birding fix, look for Dawn Chorus on Saturday mornings, hosted by lineatus. Also look for "Photo Breaks" from juliewolf throughout the week.
Also, plf515 has a meta series called Daily Kos University, where containing links to all the "teaching" diaries from the week. And Translator will be answering any and all questions (without reference!) at around 7:00 EST in "Tweak the Geek" (formerly "Outwit the Nitwit", formerly "Stump the Chump") Check it out!
As usual, The Left Wing is sort of an avian open thread. Feel free to share any bird (or any critter) pictures/stories, whether they're from the other side of the world, or from your own backyard.
