Despite some great planks in Obama's campaign platform, transit spending got largely jettisoned from the stimulus bill, in favor of roads and highways. Further addiction to roads and urban sprawl is, of course, suicidal for our economy and environment. As Transportation 4 America puts it, "low-income citizens and 1/3 of Americans who are unable to or choose not to drive [to work] could find themselves out in the cold." Help persuade Chairwoman Slaughter to to allow Rep. Peter DeFazio's (D-OR) amendment for transit operating assistance to reach the House floor for a vote.
Make the call today, but at least before 3:30pm tomorrow, to the Chair of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY).
