We are all familiar with the acrobatic leaps of logic Rush Limbaugh takes--feats stunning in light of his ever-expanding massive girth.
As everyone knows, he recently said he hoped Barack Obama would fail. Should Barack Obama fail, millions of Americans will spend the next four years wondering how they will pay their mortgage or feed their children.
That is neither here nor there for Rush Limbaugh, who said he is concerned that should the stimulus package succeed, the GOP will lose seats.
According to Keith Olberman, Rush Limbaugh also said he believes the intent of President Obama's stimulus plan is to make democrats a permanent majority, not to stimulate the economy--yet he also says Obama's plan is a bad one.
I have heard other republicans make similar comments. So let me get this straight. According to republicans, Obama is proposing a bad stimulus plan doomed to failure in order to secure democrats' hold on political power in this country.
The absurdity of this position is stunning, but I suppose it works on diehard republican constituents who trust the likes of Limbaugh to do their thinking for them. I cannot see the logic in this, however. The only way Obama's stimulus plan leads to a long-term positive for democrats is if it WORKS. It is impossible for Obama to deliberately craft a stimulus plan with the intent of keeping democrats in power without also intending for the plan to succeed.
And that's what scares Republicans. They are not afraid the plan will fail; they are afraid it will succeed. They know that should Obama's stimulus plan fail, it can be leveraged to hurt democrats' chances of retaining their hold on power. Therefore, most republicans--like Limbaugh--want the plan to fail, and along with it, the hopes of many Americans.
Republicans would rather see all Americans suffer for the next several years than risk seeing even greater support for democrats. I wonder how the republicans who have lost their jobs and homes and have no healthcare feel about republicans true position on this issue.
This is also why we must not trust any provisions republicans are proposing for the stimulus, and Congressional democrats should resist bowing to republicans' wishes. They do not have the best interests of this country at heart--if they did, we would not be in this mess to begin with.
