I recently had occasion to debate the need to prosecute Bush, Cheney, and gang for their crimes. The Real News Network has posted the first half of the debate and will probably post the second half tomorrow or soon after. Needless to say, I argued the affirmative. My opponent, Faye Williams did a fine job. She introduced herself as a yellow dog Democrat, and she is no doubt one among millions who would push for prosecution the instant Eric Holder did (sadly, he may have just promised Arlen Specter not to), but who otherwise would never bring it up. But, once the media brings it up, it's very hard for most people to say that Bush and Cheney should NOT be prosecuted for their crimes.
Such is the power of the media. Just by raising a question, you can produce a different answer from the one we were supposed to believe we had. Of course this is just one example, and real opponents of prosecution could be found if Real News had searched harder. A lot of them will no doubt shamelessly frequent this website until the moment a prosecution gets underway. So, perhaps we can create a real debate here.
