The Limbaughing of the GOP continues, with Rep. Phil "Forgive My Moment of Lucidity" Gingrey becoming the latest to bow at the altar of the (Limp) One.

Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey of Georgia apologized Wednesday for criticizing conservative hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hanity, assuring his supporters that "I am one of you."
"I regret and apologize for the fact that my comments have offended and upset my fellow conservatives—that was not my intent," Gingrey said in a statement. "I am also sorry to see that my comments in defense of our Republican Leadership read much harsher than they actually were intended, but I recognize it is my responsibility to clarify my own comments."
The mea culpa comes one day after Gingrey appeared to take issue with Limbaugh's recent criticism of congressional Republicans. The conservative radio host said GOP leaders weren't adequately challenging President Obama on his proposed stimulus package.
"I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks," Gingrey told the Politico. "You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party."
As spineless as the released statement was, his on-air mea culpa was worse (emphasis mine):

I clearly ended up putting my foot in my mouth on some of those comments (laughs) and I just wanted to tell you, Rush, and — and all our conservative giants who help us so much to maintain our base and grow it and get back this majority that I regret those stupid comments. [...]
A sad and pathetic state of affairs, to be sure. So much so, in fact, that a defense (of sorts) of Gingrey's original comments came from none other than slimeball extraordinaire - wait, WHAT? SAXBY-FREAKING-CHAMBLISS?

There are Republicans who think Gingrey was right the first time. U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, fresh from re-election, was at the state Capitol on Wednesday. Chambliss took issue with Limbaugh, who last week said he wishes failure upon Obama.
"I’m not one of those in the Rush Limbaugh camp who wants to see him fail," Chambliss told about 140 members of the National Federation of Independent Business. " His failure will be your failure and his success will hopefully be your business success."
Chambliss later added: "Whether you voted for President Obama or not, we all have to get behind him."
The show is just getting started, folks. The GOP civil war is imminent, as the True Believers™ face off against the Billionaire Boys Club. It will be merciless, it will be brutal, it will make 300 look like a Disney flick. Who's got the popcorn?
