I'm a big fan of doing what you say you'll do, along with the implied restriction such a policy imposes to not promise to do shit you may well be unable to do. On President Obama's website, in the Ethics section, no less, it states:
Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.
The first Bill President Obama signed into Law, The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, was signed by the President two days after passage in the House, without (apparently) being Posted to the White House website at all until after it was signed.
Now, nobody but the wingnuttiest Republican would have any real objection to this Law, but that isn't the point.
If you give your word, you keep it. Especially if you are the President.
