That a fan of the Civil Rights division of DOJ (though never a part of it) is going to be confirmed by the Senate is no small matter. Bush's DOJ stacked the division with cronies who defended religious institutions and targeted "reverse discrimination" more than, you know, plain discrimination. But Holder's confirmation, in my opinion, follows in the tradition of-- no, not Jesus and MLK, the way the floor debate went today-- but that of Thurgood Marshall: Damned Fine Lawyer and advocate for the rights of all Americans.
The floor vote is underway as of this writing.

It will be over by the time you click above, but if you're one of the lucky ones, you'll be witness to history. If you care to have the Yeas and nays, have it out in the comments. Just remember: there are substantial numbers of Republicans voting on the wrong side of history. Let's hope President Obama remembers that when he welcomes his--our-- new Attorney General.
PS: Hey, Roland Burris's first vote! Aye!
