I feel that the conservative-induced apathy of my generation (children of the 1990s-2000s) has far from died off with this election. Though it may be true that this election drew record voter turn out for younger voters, the people who turn 18 next year, or the year after that are unlikely to give half a crap about "politics". Conservatives have learned their lesson from this election: educating the nation's youth is dangerous, as young people generally vote for a more liberal candidate. I understand; I would be stupid as well, with the media (left and right, mind you) blasting "Anna Nicole Smith" for months on end. Conservatives have fed my generation with the lies of a perfect system; "let other people worry about it". Alexander Hamilton would be proud.
Perhaps by now I've exhausted my own reserves of pessimism; here then, is perhaps a brighter side. I attend a public high school, and though people under 18 can't vote, I have seen (and in fact, continue to see) Obama tee-shirts, "Yes We Can" posted here and there on the walls. And to my shock, the week of the election was buzzing with exitement, especially amongst the seniors who had turned eighteen as of late. In the halls on the 20th, one could not go anywhere without hearing a muttering of "Obama!".
I hope this short entry has provided a small tad of insight into the minds of my generation. :)
Peace be with ye,
