I've been sick with the flu for the past few days, and while I have been reduced to lurking here, it seems like every other diary is some variation on who should or should not be the new nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.
And with all of the posts and comments, it is amazing that one Dr. Dre has not been mentioned as a candidate - which is baffling to fans of him like myself.
Sure, you may think it is a joke, but with names like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich being mentioned with a semi-straight face by some, why not this trailblazer?
After all, look at the qualifications:
- He is a Doctor (otherwise he wouldn't go by "Dr.", right?);
- He is a trailblazer, being a part of N.W.A., who only had one of the most influential albums of the 1980s and in all of rap music history;
- He isn't afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right - look no further then the groundbreaking song "Fuck tha Police";
- He isn't a "DC insider/Villager/Elitist" as he comes Straight Outta Compton;
- He has "reached across the aisle" to work with Eminem - a white rapper from Michigan as well as Gwen Stefani, a non-rapper;
- He is recognized as an expert, as he won a Grammy; and
- He is able to "change on the fly", as he went from rapper to producer to actor and entrepreneur.
The only thing here is that I don't know whether he would want the job, if asked. But he certainly shouldn't be overlooked.
