Did I hear it right that it was the Republicans and a couple of DINOs that stopped money for infrastructure, road and mass transit from being added to the stimulus package?
Did I hear it right that Obama promised change if he was elected? That we would not have business as usual in Washington? Did I hear it right that he promised to try to work with Republicans and Democrats alike?
-- jump the shark --
How long has President Obama been in office? Has he tried to keep his promises? Did you hear the same thing I and, guess what, damn near everyone else in the country heard him say?
How long do you think President Obama should make it clear that he is doing his best to CHANGE the way things have been done? How long do you think people will put up with obstructionism when it becomes clear that is what they are seeing? How happy do you think people will be if there isn’t an urgent and serious beginning to putting people back to work, making health care available and affordable for everyone, rescuing people who were duped into signing bad mortgages? [Aside: to all the sanctimonious hypocrites out there proclaiming that THEY were smart enough not to get a loan they couldn’t pay, etc., etc.. Did you really read all those papers with the tiny print they shoved in front of your face when you "closed" on your house? Then shut up about the people who were told and believed they were getting a deal they would continue to be able to afford.]
I know a lot of people who post here always see doom and gloom ahead no matter what. Frankly, I think you are going to be greatly surprised. Change doesn’t happen in three weeks. It takes time. It takes planning. It takes a well thought out strategy. It takes clever tactics. So as President Obama allows the business as usual folks to take more and more rope, to rejoice in "getting" him, keep wringing your hands. Because you will find, I’m sure, that it will be just enough rope to hang themselves.
I, for one, trust that President Obama is at least as smart as any of the posters on this site and that he has a plan, a trap, that the other side is jumping into. I’m willing to give him at least a couple of months before I start to despair.
