I first read this on Free Republic.  I didn't quite believe it so I did my own research and have included it here.  When Janet Napolitano left Arizona for Homeland Security, the Lt. Governor stepped to the plate, as mandanted by Arizona law.  The Lt. Governor is a republican and most of the legislature is also republican.

In there wingnuttiest moments they have produced a concurrent resolution, see full document here: http://www.azleg.gov/...

Excerpts from the original document are after the jump.

HCR 2024

As I am reading the document it is almost a shot across the bow.  A type of thumbing of their noses that is a bit over the top, in my opinion.  I doubt that much will come of this but I found it interesting because fo the "you can't make me" tone.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring, that:

  1.   That the State of Arizona hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.
  1.  That this Resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.
  1.  That all compulsory federal legislation that directs states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or sanctions or requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed.
  1.  That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate of each state's legislature and each Member of Congress from the State of Arizona.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
