Last year in May? We bought this poster from the Obama campaign . we instantly thought, wow Soviet Realism/ Russian Constructivist Art needs to be big . real big and real many.....
So me and a crew of mostly retired teachers painted 70 or so of these posters. They are 9 feet tall and 6 feet wide. We quickly tired of Shepard's original pallet and moved on to a wide variety of themes and pallets.
We had sports themes, Grateful Dead themes, recycle themes, yada, yadda yadda.... Theses posters hung all over St.louis and Kentucky.
Seven of the posters have been collected by various museums in St.Louis, including, The Missouri Historical Society, St. Louis University, and the oldest library West of the Mississippi, The Mercantile Library. They all seemed to understand immediately that we were doing a "riff" of the original Fairey image. We of course made no other representations. All our images are after Fairey's work.
Listed below are the "original image from the campaign, and then our work that came "after"
So if anyone from the Ap is watching please "sue" me, I need the publicity .
