In case anyone hasn't figured out where the majority of talking points originate on your right wing radio look no further than Matt Drudge's webpage (Drudgereport.com) or the pundits over at Fox News. Drudge will headline a story on his webpage, interject a new title with a right wing spin and the sheep (that is the right wing talking heads) will go along with the garbage and spew it out over the "public" airwaves....
Well Drudge and some of the right wing media are trying to now claim "fear mongering" by the left on the economy, in hopes they can pass a stimulus package full of pork.
It's a simple and nicely wrapped spin if your out of touch with reality....
Drudge's headlines yesterday and this morning: "The Fear: Pass It Now, Or We May Never Recover" with a link to this story
When you actually read the story versus the "flash spin" Drudge likes to do rewrite with his own title, then try to manipulate the talking point.
The problem the GOP is having with this strategy is the reality on the ground. I will equate this blunder to use this strategy to Bush standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier claiming "Mission Accomplished".
The reality in our country and around the world to the average person is a bit of fear. I have had 5 friends and family members lose their jobs over the last 6 months due to downsizing and restructuring. These are jobs that they held from 10 to 18 years. Two of them jobs at Home Depot, one at The Albuquerque Journal, and another at a security company that install cameras at banks. It has been devistating to them and to their families. It has made my wife and I (even though we both carry professional diplomas and work in healthcare) cautious of our spending and worrisome of an obvious shakey economy. I don't really watch any of the mainstream news (too depressing and corporate slanted) but I do read several of the blogs on both sides of the aisle.
The GOP has tried this same tactic with the environment constantly reiterating that global warming is a hoax and Matt Drudge will make sure he posts every story about winter storms or record low temperatures to counter the arguement of "warming". Again it's an interesting spin if your not aware that Global warming should really be labeled "Global Environment Change" because you can counter the arguement with something as simple as cold weather if you haven't educated yourself on the subject matter. The point of this, they still have to counter the blatently obvious criteria of extreme weather patterns we are seeing all over the world.
So when we hear about crazy weather patterns, massive layoffs, record foreclosures, etc. not from the news but from people who are witnessing and experiencing the sitution, right wing spin will never trump the obvious...They are just hanging themselves with their own rope once again and demonstrating how these rich assholes are out of touch with the country.
So when your Republican friend tries to do a bait and switch on the issues, remind him it was the Repubicans and George Bush who got us into this mess to begin with. That will shut them up.
LOL!!
