I just received a poll from Zogby Interactive (I know, I know) which was obviously commissioned by some group which is trying to fight the stimulus package. I thought the community might be interested to see just what they're planning on sending up the flagpole.
Every question in the poll was obviously slanted to make the bill look as bad as possible, but I assume this is just because they're testing negative messages (and because they want results which say people hate the bill), not because it's a push poll.
Below the fold, a few of the more interesting questions -- particularly a couple involving Cass Sunstein.
There are several questions specifically attacking expenditures in the bill which are meant to appear wasteful or otherwise evil.
The current stimulus package supported by President Obama contains $650 million, renewing funding to help Americans buy digital cable converter boxes. Do you favor or oppose this spending provision?
The current stimulus package supported by President Obama contains nearly $4.2 billion for neighborhood stabilization activities that could go to organizations such as ACORN or the League of Women Voters, that would spend it on voter registration activities and other community involvement programs. Do you favor or oppose this spending provision?
The 30% of the American people who don't pay any federal income taxes are often still eligible for a rebate check from the federal government. Do you agree or disagree with this practice?
The Stimulus bill would allow undocumented workers, who are also referred to as illegal aliens, who are working and paying taxes to collect a tax rebate check of $500 per person. Do you agree or disagree with this provision?
The current stimulus bill would spend $3.5 billion to develop green car technologies but no funds are currently allocated to help build new oil refineries, nuclear power plants or to develop clean coal technology. Do you agree or disagree with this spending priority?
This one, in particular, is just dripping with dishonesty:
The currently proposed stimulus bill contains money to subsidize dairy farmers so that they can take their dairy cows out of production in order to drive the price of milk up. Do you agree or disagree with this provision?
There are also some questions suggesting that money isn't being spent on some things which are worthy:
Approximately $30 billion of the almost $1 trillion stimulus package goes for highway construction. Is that not enough, the right amount or too much?
About $4.6 billion of the stimulus bill is allocated for unemployment compensation and job training for those who lose their jobs. Is that amount not enough, the right amount or too much?
Some Republicans say the Obama stimulus package spends too much and stimulates too little. Do you agree or disagree?
And then, there were, uh, these two:
In a 2007 speech at Harvard University, President Obama's regulatory czar Cass Sunstein said we ought to eliminate hunting and the practice of eating meat. Do you agree or disagree with Mr. Sunstein?
President Obama's regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, has argued that animals, this includes animals being used for medical research and animals that are hunted, should be entitled to initiate lawsuits with humans representing as their lawyers and guardians. Do you agree or disagree with this idea?
Hear that sound? I think it's the bottom of the barrel being scraped.
Ultimately I expect the results of this poll to wind up in a fundraising letter or similar, but some Zogby Interactive polls find their way into the MSM as well. It is interesting, anyway, to see where they're concentrating their fire.
