Senator Coburn R-OK put forth an amendment, originally numbered 175, now numbered 309, which would limit the use of stimulus funds for what he felt were unworthy areas of occupation and employment. Some of these areas are purely recreational: casinos, community parks and swimming pools, the latter two of which I still think are fairly valuable. Lumped in with these are the more educational institutions, proud democratic institutions of great democratic value, the public museums, zoos and aquariums. Theaters and art centers are included as well. Essentially, Coburn and 72 other Senators agreed that cultural institutions are not worthy of Stimulus money.
This means jobs will be lost. Institutions Will be closed down. Collections will be sold off. Heritage will be lost. Heck of a job America. We can all just get our culture off the boob tube and you tube. Fucking asshole philistines, every one of those Senators who voted for this thing including many Democrats. Fucking ignorant pricks who say, oh artists, we can't afford those at a time like this.
Get this straight you apologists to ignorance. Museums are about a lot more than looking at pretty pictures.
Another little bit of America has died tonight, whether people want to recognize that or not.

SA 309. Mr. COBURN submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill H.R. 1, making supplemental appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and State and local fiscal stabilization, for fiscal year ending September 30, 2009, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows:
At the appropriate place, insert the following:
SEC. __. LIMIT ON FUNDS.
None of the amounts appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for any casino or other gambling establishment, aquarium, zoo, golf course, swimming pool, stadium, community park, museum, theater, art center, and highway beautification project. Thomas
And here how Senators voted. If your Senators voted yes for this shit, please call them and complain. If they voted no, be sure to praise them next time they ask you for money. Can you imagine not being able to take your kids to the zoo? to see the fishes? to see the story of your communities' heritage?
Trust me. There will be closings. This is an epic tragedy for our tangible culture.
