IMHO because that is what it's target should be. Most of the country has suffered from stagnant wages and increasing costs of living for the last several years. Now we are losing our jobs and tax cuts haven't helped so far. Would the repugs would not have the guts to vote against a Jobs Bill?
For years we've had legislation called something benign like the 'Clean Air Act' that actually does the opposite. However this Jobs Bill could actually be what is says it is (minus the tax cuts and with job creation expanded.) We need decent paying jobs now, nobody is going to spend money they do not have or afraid of losing in the near future.
I found myself yelling at the radio in my car 'call it a jobs bill' during a discussion about the Stimulus Bill and increasing the tax cuts in the bill. The last go round of stimulus tax rebates did not increase the number of jobs in this country as two thirds went to pay down debt. Nothing trickled down to most people in the last decade except s--t. We should be asking where the trickle down got to, what layer of society before trying it again.
I work in the mental health field with folks living on SSI or disability checks. Nothing tricked down to them either. These folks have to spend all of their income on housing and food w and any increase in benefits would be spent likewise by necessity. The recent increase in SSI and SSDI did not really make much difference in standard of living as most lost some food stamps and those living in subsidized housing had their rent increased. A one time bonus for these folks would all be spent immediately.Imagine if these folks could buy some new clothing!
This is my first diary and I apologize in advance for any breach of etiquette. Thanks for listening.
