Because I made sure our new President was represented. I walked
in the door with the official portrait under my arm. It was
about 11:30 am, right before the lunch crowd.
Although it seemed pretty crowded already. Just as you come in
the front door there is a glass display case. I set the Official
President Obama portrait right on the case. Facing the door, his
serious yet friendly face cannot be missed as each patron walks
through the front door.
The funny thing I noticed was there was a John Kennedy campaign
item on the glass case. And hanging on the wall as you go into
the ladies restroom was another John Kennedy portrait. A nice
pen and ink 8x10. Were those up before? I don't remember
seeing Kennedy in such a prominent location.
Maybe the owners are Democrats...Stranger things have happened.
But if you are in Warrior, Alabama anytime soon, stop by the
White House Cafe and check out the portrait of President Obama.
That is if they don't remove it..After all it was guerrilla warfare,
me placing a portrait in their restaurant. I didn't ask
permission, I just set the portrait up, and left. I am going to
go have lunch in about a week and check it out for myself.
For fun, try the poll below.
UPDATE: The White House Cafe is about 20 miles north of
Birmingham, Alabama. Exit 181 or 182 off I-65 North/South.
And, yes they have every President represented in the restaurant.
But, they have multiple different pics of Reagan, and they also
have cool historical items, such as a Lincoln bank etc.
UPDATE II: Someone wanted to know a little more history about
Warrior. The town is a poor mostly white community. It has a
rich history of hosting KKK meetings some 25 years ago. So to
have a Black President's portrait in their restaurant is
historical to say the least. Certainly not a progressive town. And
honestly, I have not seen one black patron the times I ate
there.
