Deadline is February 27th. New York City CEO, George Anderson, is extendinig Wall Street's near immunity from criminal prosecution.
The facts are not in dispute.
-- Anerson's SUV was videoed going 60 mph down Water Street at 10:32 PM
-- He struck 59-year old secretary, Florence Cioffi, and knocked her 40 feet
-- Anderson left the scene for 20 minutes. He called his lawyer
-- No effort was made to render assistance
-- Ms. Cioffi died
-- Prospective sentence: 16-days and a $350 fine
REQUEST A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR:
-- Mayor Bloomberg: 212-NEW-YORK - Public Affairs
-- Carol A. Robles-Roman, Deputy Mayor - City Hall 10007 212-788-3000
-- DA Robert Morgenthau - 163 W 125th St # 733 10027 212-864-7884
-- Governor David Paterson, State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224 518-474-8390
-- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo - http://www.oag.state.ny.us/ -- 1-800-771-7755
AG Cuomo can appoint a Special Prosecutor in a day. Same for DA Morgenthau.
Anderson admitted the DUI. Same for Leavng the Scene. This 16-day sentence is both unique and insulting to the Rule of Law.
MORE Below the Fold:::
There is always the chance that money is changing hands. This sentence is so off-the-rails that we can find no parallel in New York State.
Legal minimum with Reckless Endangerment -- driving 60 mph down Water Street -- is a year in prison. Maximum on the lesser charges would be 2 1/3 years. Normal sentencing starts at 2 years.
This case is sitting with ADA David Hammer. Lord knows if he is on the take. More likely, the judicial system in New York is set up to bow down to Wall Street. Any ADA that chooses to prosecute a Wall Street nobility ??? Not good for his career.
In either option, this killing and the bizarre wrist-slap treatment must justify appointing a Special Prosecutor.
Hailing a taxi can't turned into a blood sport.
No one was prosecuted for the thousands of Dot.com scams. Merrill participated in the Enron fraud loans. No one was prosecuted.
Not prosecuting Wall Streeters amounts to a virtual immunity.

60 mph on a downtown Manhattan street at 10:32 P.M. -- driving drunk -- and Leaving the Scene of this fatal accident.. all this is pled to misdemeanor DUI with no element of Manslaughter or Reckless Endangerment or any element of Leaving the Scene with the victim lying crushed in the street.
First time for such a giveaway sentence, ever. Anywhere in New York State.
The cost of a human life goes to nothing.
We can find no similar case in New York State. No admitted drunk driver in a fatal accident has been let off with a minimal sentence. The $350 fine is a mystery on top of it all. DUI is $5,000.
This ADA Hammer is all by himself, legally. Possibly, DA Robert Morgenthau has given up on keeping his ADAs honest.
There is no excuse for this. Failure to prosecute -- a disease, drowning New York City.
