I just received an automated call from "Let Freedom Ring" about a 30 second political survey.
The push poll aspect started right away with the opening statement, "This survey is about President Obamas so called stimulus bill". It then clearly identified the bill as one the "non partisan CBO has said will hurt not help the economy and one which congress will be voting on in the next few hours" (I was of course aghast!) then getting to the point "Do you agree that congress must band together to stop this bill from passing?". As this was the first question I finally got to participate by saying "No".
Perhaps this was an expected answer (gee do you think) because the remaining questions were not political at all - Am I registered to vote in Maine (yes), Am I male (tough call here - male or swine according to the wife but I went with yes), and finally am I over 50 (nay - I cried nay, I may be a registered republican but I am not the sole remaining Bush favorable demographic - or something similar).
This ended the survey. Now I'm not sure how many of my democratic friends will be getting this call though I suspect the numbers are few but I fully expect to see a new poll trumpeting that fiscally conservative households who respect freedom and democracy and tax cuts (er I mean businesses) strongly oppose the "so called stimulus package" soon. Now they did mention a website which I just had to check out (for giggles if nothing else) www.stopthestim.com Which while I would hate to have anyone else go there but I feel I must describe in their own words so here is the first paragraph.
The so-called stimulus bill appears to be on the verge of passage following a "compromise" crafted by Republican Senators Specter and Collins and Democratic Senator Nelson. It demonstrates a stunning ignorance of how business works and how jobs are created. For example, in its over 1500 pages, there is not one single mention of increasing profits in American businesses, yet any business owner knows that sustained profits are the only way that businesses can expand and create new jobs. Without a clear focus on increasing profits, the long-term result of a huge increase in government spending can only be one thing: staggering inflation.
The fearmongering goes on from there but I just thought I'd share. Sort of makes me miss human polls so you could actually laugh in ther face / ears!
