Regarding the rules and etiquette of diary posts, suffice it to say that i find my ability to contribute "fresh original analysis" inextricably linked to my profession as a songwriter. I thought I'd try and post some song lyrics plus a bit of explanation and find out if folks appreciate.
This one (below) is about how beautiful even the most utilitarian of turbines are. I personally would love to see acres and acres of them off the shores of the Olympic Mountains here in the Pacific Northwest, or in the Chesapeake Bay, or how about the carved out coal mined remnants of the Appalachians?
So click on for some thoughts on Al Gore, Don Quixote, and my mom.
I for one get a huge smile on my face every time I hear Obama say the word "turbine"!
The Windmill Song
Let's make a beautiful and shiny turbine
fly it in the sky like a kite, high
singin' in the rain and sunshine
round and round and
drive me out into the desert
we'll kiss and watch the windmills twirling upside down
Birthday parties have been doing it forever
handing out the shiny pinwheels, all the kids are so clever
round and round and
how much stronger are the four winds blowing through the Grand Canyon?
how much prettier would it be rolling upside down?
A famous architect could make a really nice one
or maybe my brother, he has a really great eye for detail
he got it from our mother
wouldn't everyone want it in their front yard?
a nouveau American flagpole, making some kind of good go
round and round
Let's make a beautiful and shiny turbine
fly it in the sky like a kite, high
singin' in the rain and sunshine
round and round and
drive me out into the desert
we'll kiss and watch the windmills twirling upside down
Don Quixote was a little misled
thinking they might be giants, that's what he saw in his head
round and round and
just like war in real life, it's never what it seems
and so how did we let this good life get so...?
Al Gore says we are in a crisis
little by little the world is starting to believe in science
so listen to the ex-vice president 'cause we all know
that he shoulda won back in '00
and now he's teaching us that the wheels on the bus still need to go
round and round
Let's make a beautiful and shiny turbine
fly it in the sky like a kite, high
singin' in the rain and sunshine
round and round and
drive me out into the desert
we'll kiss and watch the windmills twirling upside down
A rough demo of this song was recently posted on www.myspace.com/alimarcus, where you can listen for free.
