It's been a tradition in our family to add a verse or two to our holiday wishes for each other. My husband writes dry, boring stuff for a living, and he's always happy to break loose and try the greeting card business. This year, he's out of town, so I received my Valentine in the mail yesterday and began composing a response. (The suprise is, he'll get it in time.)
Anyway, this year he wrote:
"Now Valentines are Red, and this card is just Black.
No budget for colors, you can thank W for that."
That couple of lines seems to have turned my Valentines response this year into something that is not as Valentiney as it should be I guess, but it has been fun.
So, I thought, there are so many great writers that turn up here, how about everybody tries their hand at sending Mr. Obama and/or his family a Valentine this holiday weekend?
Here's part of mine:
W's in Crawford still afraid of his horse.
while congressional republicans all head for the doors.
We're sure the idiot is back in his village
Because there is nothing left here to pillage.
Savior Obama will help us just give him a chance
Because Republicans - even those with wide stance
Found themselves all upset and in dire straits
When Plumbers and Barbies and Seniors were bad dates.
So they're off in the wilderness far from the throne
And no A-list people will answer their phone.
But Rush says follow him, he knows what to do.
If obstruction's your game then Rush is the poo.
They left the economy in ruins it is true
The grownups are back to fix things like new.
So cut back this holiday but still celebrate
With hugs and kisses - those gifts are first rate.
Hallmark is safe and Seuss can stop spinning.
I'm off to confession - this poem is like sinning.
Enjoy your weekend, Happy Valentines Barack.
Here in Chicago we think that you rock!
Happy Valentines Day Everybody at kos.
