It was only this past week on Wednesday that New York Governor David Paterson (D) announced that Tuesday March 31 will be the set date of the special election for the NY-20 Congressional District. The congressional district was left vacant once Governor Paterson appointed Congresswoman Gillibrand to the Senate to fill the void of Hillary Clinton. The special election will be a tough fight: It features Democratic businessman Scott Murphy, who lives in the district, against Joe Bruno-lackey James Tedisco, the current Assembly Minority Leader who doesn't even live in the district. Tedisco currently leads by a slight margin in the polls.
The Republican Party will look to make this special election a referendum once again against President Obama and will be pouring in boatloads of money. Making the situation even tougher, is the fact that in the NY-20 Congressional District, there are 70,000 more registered Republican voters than Democratic voters. Gillibrand was especially popular with folks with the district and Murphy needs to gain that some appeal in a very short period of time. This past Sunday, Senator Gillibrand formally endorsed Scott Murphy for Congress.
Last week, Murphy's campaign opened its first campaign office in Glen Falls, and they are looking to open up three more campaign offices in Dutchess County, Saratoga County, and Green County.

The College Democrat chapters located in the NY-20 which include Skidmore and Bard College, will be actively campaigning on the ground, knocking on doors and making phone calls for the Murphy Campaign. Surrounding college democrat chapters at Albany and Siena are also planning on helping out for multiple weekends. On the GOTV Weekend before the election, the College Democrats of New York are organizing a massive campaign invasion, of over a hundred members from across the state to campaign that weekend for the final push. Students will be carpooling and taking vans late Friday evening and early Saturday morning to put in the time needed to help make this district stay in Democratic hands.
