Recently, since the passing of prop 8 in California, and prop 2 in Florida, it would seem that the GLBT community still has a ways to go before truly finding equality. I know that with continued effort and enduring the discrimination, eventually the GLBT community will. Suze Orman commented on this briefly, and had a message that is quite powerful.
The right of marriage should be available to all citizens who want to. The fact that this country continues to discriminate against the GLBT community in this category is a tragedy in itself. However, with time and perseverance, this will eventually change. Recently on the air, Suze Orman discussed marriage while talking about finances, and sent a message I think everyone (both for and against) GLBT marriage should here:

Not only are partners who happen to be the same sex not allowed to show how much they love each other by joining together in a union of marriage, but they are also denied financial rights the married couples have. A gay/lesbian couple are not allowed thousands of dollars of savings solely because they cannot marry one another. Maybe if homosexual couples were allowed to marry and have the same financial privileges that married couples had, they could spend some of the money they save and help get the economy back on track.
This is something that I wish to see the day in America where everyone is accepting the GLBT as equals, including the right to marriage. To deny one group an individuals a right that everyone else has (I won't go into polygamy here) is simply unacceptable. As Americans, we must always fight discrimination within our borders, in all of its forms.
