It's a refreshing change from the partisan whining of the GOP to see a Republican with at least two functioning brain cells. I applaud Florida's Governor Charlie Crist for his support of President Obama's stimulus package.
Governor Crist supports the package because it's in the best interest of the people. Wow! a Republican making sense. I'm waiting for Michael Steele to accuese Governor Criist of practicing witchcraft and demand that he be burned at the stake right next to the Governor of California who also is trying to serve the people during this economic crisis.
Meet the Press host David Gregory pushed Crist on the issue of going against the party but he stood firm in his positin as he should.
The tax cur portion of the stimulus should grab evertone's attention. One-third of this package is aimed at tax cuts which seems to elude Republicans in this debate. Maybe that's bacause the rich aren't the main recipients and we are well aware that the wealthy are always taken care of by the GOP whether they need it or not. The entire economic philosophy of the Bush administration was tax cuts for the rich and we see where we are now.
Louisiana's Governor, Bobby Gindal is drinking the Rush Limbaugh kool-aid, praying that the stimulus fails so that he can parlay it into a presidential candidacy. It's pretty easy to read between the lines on that one. I think that if presidential wanna-be's like Gindal, Sanford, and Palin(Governor of the earmark capital) really want to make a statement, then refuse all stimulus money for your state. I spoke with my congressman who is a democrat and supports the stimulus to remind his republican colleagues of their votes when they want handouts for their districts.
We should also recognize that each day this stimulus is delayed which is what the republicans wanted, our infrastructure's decays at an exponential rate. One can aregue that we need to spend more on infrastructure but acting now will yield better results than doing nothing.
It's obvious to me that with the exception of a very small number of republican elected officials, they have no interest in doing anything that could stop the hemmoraging of American jobs. It's estimated that with no government intervention to reverse our faltering economy, ( remeber McCain said the fundamentals were sound), recovery could be as long as twenty years away. We can't afford to wait that long for the private sector to iron this out.
