...so why is William Shatner running for Prime Minister of Canada?
The 'Star Trek' actor, who played Captain Kirk in the hit sci-fi TV show, is planning to make a dramatic career change and help lead his native country.
The 77-year-old star said: "My intention is to be Prime Minister of Canada, not Governor General, which is mainly a ceremonial position."
Shatner revealed his lofty ambition in response to a letter from a fan who urged him to put himself forward for the Governor General of Canada.
I have to admit: I know a lot more about Shatner than any adult probably should, and I know a little more about Canada than most Americans do. I knew that Shatner was Canadian, but I didn't know that he was open about it. I had always assumed it, like his hair, was something that was kind of there in the background, but never spoken of directly.
Now, to be fair, this could all be a lot of nonsense. Another headline associated with the same article is "Boy marries dog to ward off tiger attacks." And, of course, the piece comes from New Zeland which makes me wonder if Hobbits were somehow involved.
This is all my long way of saying sometimes the news is strange enough that even I am surprised by it, and I don't surprise easily.
